At Skiles Test Elementary, students receive a well-rounded education with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math - the stepping stones to the future. Students observe the natural changes that occur during each season at the six-acre outdoor learning lab.
Students observe the natural changes that occur during each season in the onsite nature center. Students maintain the vegetable, flower and butterfly gardens, as well as the creek, wetland and wildlife habitats.
Visit the outdoor lab and scan the student created QR codes to access video of students explaining different components of the area. Even the subjects of music and physical education are infused with STEM through creating digital music and recording and analyzing exercise data. Skiles Test’s two specialized STEM classes provide areas where students can create through computer programming and robotics, and also through exploration of the objects around them.
All grade levels utilize a Core Curriculum based on Indiana State Standards, taught in all Lawrence Township Schools. The Readers and Writers Workshop approach is used in Language Arts, Balanced Math, Science, Social Studies, and Social Skills & Community Building.
